STAMFORD, Conn. — A new assistant principal is joining the leadership team at Toquam Magnet Elementary School in Stamford.
Shawn Marinello was named to the job Tuesday by the Stamford Board of Education and Superintendent Earl Kim. The position is effective July 1.
Marinello is replacing Angela Asaro, who was recently named principal at Stillmeadow Elementary School.
He has served as administrative intern at Toquam for the past three years, supporting the school’s administration in day-to-day responsibilities as well as working directly with teachers to implement best teaching practices.
“Over the past three years Toquam has become a second home to me,” said Marinello. “I am truly honored to be named as the new assistant principal. I look forward to continuing to work with such dedicated and caring educators, parents and students”.
Before serving as administrative intern at Toquam, Marinello was a guidance counselor at Turn of River Middle School. He started his education career in Tampa, Fla., as a third grade teacher. He also held roles of afterschool director, magnet curriculum integration teacher and guidance counselor there.
Marinello holds a bachelor's in elementary education from the University of Tampa; a master's in educational counseling from the University of South Florida, Tampa; and a doctorate in educational leadership and urban education from NOVA Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale.
“Given his commitment to and experience with the staff and families at Toquam, Shawn is an ideal fit to serve as the school’s assistant principal,” said Assistant Superintendent-Elementary Tamu Lucero. “Shawn’s background as a teacher and guidance counselor will continue to add value to the Toquam community.”
