Kids Put Minds in Motion at Fairfield County Event

WESTPORT, Conn. – From exploring live creatures from Long Island Sound, to digging for Native American and Colonial artifacts, and rocking out on an electric guitar, there’s no shortage of hands-on activities for curious kids to explore during Minds in Motion at Westport’s Bedford Middle School on March 24.

Sponsored by the Connecticut Association for the Gifted, Minds in Motion is a three-hour annual event that offers a variety of workshops for children in kindergarten through eighth-grade. Kids don’t have to be identified as “gifted” to attend—all are welcome.

Workshops are broken into categories by grade, and include: exploring creatures from Long Island Sound; getting up close and personal with tortoises, lizards, snakes, chinchillas; an archaeological dig for Native American and Colonial artifacts; chemistry projects; starting an organic garden; and playing an electric guitar.

In addition to the kids' events, parents and educators can explore vendors offering a range of gifts, puzzles, books, as well as information on camps, educational programs and services. There will also be a keynote address by Del Siegle, a noted Connecticut educator who will offer two free workshops, including “Understanding and Addressing Student Motivation” and “How to Help Your Child Be a Better Learner.”

The event takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday,  March 24, at Bedford Middle School, 88 North Ave. Workshops are open on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is open through March 12 at www.ctgifted.org.
