New Assistant Principal Named At Stamford's Westover Elementary School

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Keriann Maxelix has been named assistant principal at Westover Magnet Elementary School in Stamford, Interim Superintendent James A. Connelly and the Board of Education announced.

Maxelix is replacing Sherry Prendergast, who was recently appointed principal of K.T. Murphy Elementary School.

Currently, Maxelix serves as Curriculum Associate for Data Monitoring (K-12) a position she has held since 2014. She has also served on the district’s K-5 Literacy Professional Development Team. 

Maxelix began working in the Stamford schools as a Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) Instructional Support teacher at Springdale Elementary in 2013. Before working in Stamford she was a special education teacher in the Bridgeport Public Schools district for six years. In that role, she also designed and developed a specialized inclusion program for special ed students, served as a reading interventionist, and a specialized reading instructor.

Maxelix graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a dual special education/elementary education certification. She obtained her master of science in special education from Southern Connecticut State University, with a concentration in both autism spectrum disorders and learning disabilities. She earned her sixth-year degree in educational leadership from the University of Bridgeport.

Maxelix was recognized this May with a 2016 Spotlight on Teachers Award for her work in developing and implementing the framework for the district’s SRBI program.
