DeRubeis is replacing Edith Presley, who announced she would be leaving the district at the end of this school year, Superintendent Earl Kim announced.

DeRubeis is currently the district's director of early childhood, where she works with the district administration team, families and community-based stakeholders to prepare children to be successful in elementary school.

Before that, she was the curriculum associate for Early Childhood Education.

The district screened more than 50 applicants for the job as principal at Stark. Fifteen candidates were provided an opportunity to interview with a search committee of parents, staff and community members.

“Although many of the candidates had most of the desired attributes, no single candidate possessed all of the experience, skills and knowledge, we believe are needed to ultimately be selected as our next leader at Stark School,” said Assistant Superintendent-Elementary Tamu Lucero. “We are confident that Jen has the skills and enthusiasm to lead the school for the upcoming school year. We will repost the position early next year to attract a broader range of applicants.”
