Forum To Help Stamford Parents Deal With Kids Trauma

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford parents will be able to learn how to help their kids deal with traumatic experiences, such as the shooting in Newtown,  at an event Tuesday night.

Amanda Harmon, a clinical social worker for the Family Centers school-based health center at Rippowam Middle School, will give parents coping strategies for loss and death, age-appropriate conversation topics and effective adult coping strategies, a release said. She will give tips from both the parents' and children’s perspectives.

Harmon has 10 years experience with trauma counseling and children and family counseling, the release said.

The meeting will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. at Rippowam Middle School, 381 High Ridge Road, in the school’s Cyber Café.

Dinner will be provided at the event.
