Casey Cummings will become assistant principal of Springdale Elementary School effective Aug. 28, and Kathleen Kelley will become interim assistant principal at Davenport Ridge Elementary School effective Aug. 3.

Cummings is replacing Laura Lynam, who is returning to the classroom as an English Language teacher. Kelley is filling a vacancy created as the result of Kendra Brown’s appointment as interim director of Early Childhood Education.

“I am very pleased, both Casey and Kathleen bring a wealth of experience and leadership to their respective positions,” said Assistant Superintendent Tamu Lucero. “Casey has been an integral part of the Springdale community for a number of years and will be able to build on the relationships she has already forged. Kathleen will take the skills she has honed in her time at Stillmeadow and share them with the staff and students at Davenport.”

Cummings has served as the administrative intern at Springdale for the past three years where she supported the building administrators in the day-to-day operations of the school. Among her many responsibilities she served as the IDT Facilitator, a member of the District Data Team, the UCONN Tutoring Program Coordinator and the After-School Enrichment Coordinator. Before that, Cummings was a teacher and elementary math liaison at Westover Magnet School, as well as the ELL Summer Institute head teacher and district head teacher for Secondary Summer School.

“Springdale has a remarkable school community that has embraced me and supported my professional growth over the past three years,” said Cummings.

Kelley has been the AI at Stillmeadow Elementary School for the past three years. In addition to supporting the day-to-day building operations, she also was instrumental in training students, staff and families in Yale’s RULER Program for Social Emotional Intelligence; managed the Alliance and Title 1 grants; served on the School Data Team; and designed and supervised afterschool programs.

Before that, Kelley was a classroom teacher, grade level leader and mentor. She has recently served as district head teacher for Elementary Summer School and is a three-time Teacher of the Year nominee.

“I am a product of the Stamford Public Schools and a proud parent of two recent Stamford Public Schools graduates,” said Kelley. “I am thrilled to join the administrative team at Davenport Ridge, and am eager to collaborate with students, staff and families on behalf of our most precious resource, our children.”
