Erik Christopher Brown, 35, is facing charges following the investigation into a shooting involving a boy in the 11000 block of Stagestone Way in Manassas earlier this week, officials announced.

Members of the Prince William County Police Department were called to the home shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, when a shooting was reported.

The investigation determined that the 7-year-old found an unsecured firearm inside the home, and while handling the weapon, a round discharged and struck him in the hand before traveling through a bedroom wall and into a bathroom.

Officials said that Brown immediately transported the child to an area hospital, where the police were contacted. The injuries to the boy were described as being non-life-threatening.

No other injuries or damaged property was reported in the incident.

Brown was charged with felony child neglect and allowing children access to firearms. His court date is pending, according to police, and bond was set at $5,000 unsecured.
