Davone McDaniels, 37, was being held without bail and on a first-degree murder charge in the death of 38-year-old Tarone Thompson on Jan. 15, 2022, according to city police.

Police responding to the 2300 block of West Lanvale Street found Thompson suffering gunshot wounds around 10:25 p.m., they said. He was pronounced dead by medics at the scene.

When news first broke of Thompson's death, tributes from the community poured in on social media.

"Rest easy big cuz u was just getting your life together," one Facebook user wrote. "I promise to look out for all of your children why????? Because I know u would do it for me. We had our arguments and fights but u came to me like a man and said let's talk. Just know we love u cuz rest easy."

"I won’t even waste my breath asking why…GOD’s Plan is GOD’s Plan!" another user wrote. "What I will say is 'I love you Bear' & you better glow in Heaven like you did on Earth! You will be missed & I love you with my entire heart little brother."
