Word of the threat in Dutchess County at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School was provided to police around 9:21 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 to the Town of Hyde Park Police, said Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson.
The post featured a picture of a bathroom wall at FDR stating there was going to be a shooting at the school the following day.
Detectives were able to track down where the post originated from and that student was interviewed by the school resource officer and a police detective. The person who generated the post had no connection to the suspect.
Officers reviewed countless hours of video surveillance with the assistance of high school administrators.
On Friday, Nov. 22, the Hyde Park Police Department identified a suspect.
The suspect was interviewed and after the interview he was charged with making a terroristic threat. The suspect is a 15-year-old boy who is a student at FDR and who resides in the Town of Poughkeepsie and whose name is not being released due to his age.
He was transported to MidHudson Reginal Hospital for a mental health evaluation. He was given an appearance ticket to appear in Dutchess County Family Court.
The identity of the suspect is not being released due to his age.
Hyde Park Police urge anyone who observes or hears of a threat not to post it to social media.
"They should immediately report it to the school administration and the police," Benson said. "These cases are much easier to solve when they are reported promptly.
"Sending messages via social media and not reporting the incident causes more harm than good."
The Hyde Park Police were assisted in the investigation by the staff at FDR and the Dutchess County Attorney’s office.
