Dutchess Tourism Inc. Presents Awards of Distinction

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Dutchess Tourism, Inc. is celebrating National Tourism Week and 32 years of helping the tourism industry in Dutchess grow. 

The New York State Travel Industry Association (NYSTIA) recently recognized Dutchess Tourism for excellence.

Over the years, tourism has become a major contributor to the economy of the Hudson Valley region. In 1984 visitor spending was $94 million, generating $950,000 in sales tax. By 2014, that figure had jumped to $508 million in spending and $35.9 million in local sales tax. 

In recognition of those who have helped along the way, the agency presented the Dutchess Tourism Awards of Distinction at the May 5 celebration. The Dutchess Tourism Awards of Distinction Finalists are:

  • The Dutchess County Executive’s Award for Overall Distinction: Dia: Beacon; Crown Maple at Madava Farms, and the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College; 
  • Arts Award of Distinction: The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck; Daryl’s House Restaurant and Music Club, and the Wassaic Project; 
  • Culinary Award of Distinction: Main Street Hospitality; Montgomery Place Orchards, and Oliver Kita Fine Chocolates; 
  • Family Entertainment Award of Distinction: Mid-Hudson Civic Center/McCann Ice Arena; Spins Bowl, and Trevor Zoo; 
  • History Award of Distinction: Friends of the Irondale School House; Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and Wilderstein Historic Site; 
  • Outdoors Award of Distinction: Clearwater; William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail, and the NY-NJ Trail Conference; 
  • Hospitality Award of Distinction: Krista Borrero, Hilton Garden Inn, Fishkill; Anna Petersen, Hampton Inn, Fishkill; and Kerri Travis, Crown Maple at Madava Farms.

Before the awards luncheon there was a Brochure Exchange, Tourism Rally Day and Press Conference in the parking lot of The Grandview. This is the 33rd Annual National Tourism Week, celebrated from May 1 to 7. Learn more from the US Travel Association at this link.
