Maj. Benjamin Recla, who was part of the West Point Flying Team, was off-duty at the time. West Point officials said the case is being investigated by Atlantic City police, but no foul play is suspected.

Recla, 33, was an instructor with the department of civil and mechanical engineering. He graduated from the academy in 2004 and previously served as a second lieutenant in the aviation branch.

"I wish to extend to his family the sincere and profound sympathy of all the officers, cadets and other members of this command," Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen Jr. said in a news release.

Before teaching at West Point, Recla was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and served multiple deployments for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
