What's Happening in Darien This Weekend

DARIEN, Conn. – Among the events in Darien this weekend are a production of “The Runner Stumbles” at the Darien Arts Center, the annual Hindley Happening and document shredding, breast cancer screening and a food drive at Darien Rowayton Bank.

Friday, May 11

Plant Sale: 8:30 a.m. The Darien Community Association continues its annual plant sale.

Picnic at Cherry Lawn Park: 10 a.m. The Darien Community Association’s Mom’s Morning In program hosts its farewell picnic at Cherry Lawn Park. Bring a snack to share with others and have some fun.

“The Iron Lady”: 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The Darien Library hosts a screening of “The Iron Lady,” the Academy Award-winning film starring Meryl Streep as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

“The Runner Stumbles”: 8 p.m. The Darien Arts Center presents a play about a young nun who dies under mysterious circumstances and her superior, Father Rivard, who is charged with her murder. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and students.

Saturday, May 12

Shredding, Breast Cancer Screening and Food Drive: 9 a.m.-noon. The Darien Rowayton Bank hosts a document shredding service for anyone who wants to get rid of confidential documents. They will also be hosting Stamford Hospital’s Mobile Wellness Bus to perform free mammograms, and will be collecting food for Person-to-Person.

Hindley Happening: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Hindley Elementary hosts its annual fair, the Hindley Happening. There will be carnival rides, games, food and other amusements for kids, plus a silent auction for the adults.

Darien School of Dance Spring Showcase: 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Darien School of Dance at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk performs its second annual Spring Showcase at Darien Town Hall. The theme is “Excerpts from the Classics,” featuring dances from "Swan Lake," "Coppelia," "Les Sylphides," "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty," to name a few. Jazz and tap will also be presented.

Family History for the Whole Family: 2-4 p.m. The Darien Library hosts “Family History for the Whole Family,” presented by the Middlesex Genealogical Society. Learn how kids and adults can become engaged in researching the family’s history.

Band Night: 7 p.m. The Depot hosts a Band Night for teens. Entry is $10 per person.

“The Runner Stumbles”: 8 p.m. The Darien Arts Center hosts another evening  of the play “The Runner Stumbles.” Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and students.
