STAMFORD, Conn. -- State. Sen Carlo Leone (D-Stamford) recently welcomed the approval of the State Bond Commission's decision to fund the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford and the Stamford Center for the Arts.

Projects totaling $7.5 million, with $1.5 million from the Bond Commission, will help with renovation and construction projects. The Boys & Girls Club plans to expand the Stamford facility to provide additional space for the organization’s programming, as well as new recreational facilities and a gymnasium for the use of its young members.

“I have long been proud to support the Boys & Girls Club and the excellent work they do on behalf of our city’s children," said Leone in a release. "I am excited at the prospect of larger recreational facilities for the children to play and exercise in. The new gymnasium and other programmatic spaces will be a fine addition to the organization and our community as a whole."

The Stamford Center for the Arts plans to conduct roof repairs and replace older seating at the Palace Theater. The Bond Commission approved $579,418 in funding to help with the work.

“I am a big believer in the importance of cultivating the arts in a successful community, for a whole variety of reasons. They make our city more dynamic and broaden our cultural appeal, while attracting visitors and city residents alike to downtown, where they may patronize other shops, restaurants and businesses,” said Leone in the release. “I look forward to buying a ticket myself for one of the Palace Theater’s new seats in the near future.”
