STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Mayor David Martin will attend the 82nd winter meeting of The t.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C., beginning Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Mayors from across the nation are expected to be present, including 11 from Connecticut. The trip to Washington will be Martin’s first since taking office last month.

“I am looking forward to representing Stamford, exchanging best practices with mayors from across the country, and working to bring federal dollars back to Stamford,” Martin said in a statement.

While in Washington, Martin will join discussions on several policy issues, including job creation, education, transportation and sustainability, and hear from a number of key government officials.

A complete list of speakers is available here.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, Martin will attend a series of afternoon policy discussions at the White House with Cabinet Secretaries, followed by remarks from President Barack Obama.

In advance of the conference, Martin met with lobbyists to secure additional meetings with officials in various federal agencies to discuss Stamford’s priorities and work to secure funding.

“It is highly advantageous for the Mayor to visit Washington and meet directly with federal agencies responsible for granting federal dollars to Stamford,” said Michael Pollard, Martin’s chief of staff, in a release. “Stamford competes for federal dollars with municipalities from across the country and the mayor’s advocacy is an important ingredient for success.”
