“(It’s) just making it harder for normal sane people from owning them. This will in no way effect criminals. This law is just going to shut up society so CT can say were doing ‘something’ about these horrific tragedies,” Julia Rose Arcuri-Mullan said on The Stamford Daily Voice’s Facebook page.
“I like my second amendment rights. As I am sympathetic to what happened in Newtown changing the laws is not going to help. If someone wants to do this again, it will happen. It's not going to change a thing,” Peggy Anderson Lueders said on The New Canaan Daily Voice’s Facebook page.
“I fully support this. But I honestly don't feel safer if these weapons are still easily acquired elsewhere and brought here,” Amy LaCascia Notter said.
The legislation did receive some support from readers including Kenneth Hill who said, “YES !!!! It is about time, now we need the rest of the country to catch up.”
The proposed legislation calls for the establishment of a statewide dangerous weapon offender registry, universal background checks for firearm purchases, expands the state’s current Automatic Weapon Ban, bans the sale or purchase of large capacity magazines, requires state issued eligibility certificates for the purchase of any rifle, shotgun, or ammunition, expands the state’s firearms safe storage law, increases penalties for firearm trafficking and illegal possession, expands the membership of the Board of Firearms Permit Examiners, and changes to the status of illegal possession for people who have either involuntarily or voluntarily been admitted to a hospital for psychiatric problems.
