The first swearing-in will take place shortly after midnight on Sunday, Dec. 1, in a private ceremony at Martin’s North Stamford home. Gov. Dannel Malloy, a former Stamford mayor, will administer the oath of office. Stamford’s City Charter sets the mayor’s term as commencing on the first day of December succeeding the election.

The second ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the first-floor atrium of the Stamford Government Center at 888 Washington Blvd. in Stamford. The Honorable Gene R. Martin, the mayor’s father and a retired Jackson County, Missouri, circuit judge, will administer the oath of office. David Martin, a Democrat, is the city of Stamford's 31st mayor, succeeding Michael Pavia, a Republican who did not seek re-election. Martin beat former Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele on Nov. 5 to become mayor of Stamford.

The public ceremony will include brief remarks from Martin, who will also swear in newly elected members on the Board of Representatives, Board of Finance and Board of Education. Refreshments will be served following the event.
