Stackpole, a state-certified municipal assessor, has served the city in various capacities for more than 20 years. He was most recently the acting tax assessor.

“Greg has been an indispensable member of the Assessor’s Office for many years and will do an outstanding job as tax assessor,” the mayor said.

“He has been particularly instrumental in managing the department’s technology initiatives and strategic planning process which has resulted in improvements in the department.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Greg in the years to come.”

A four-member appointment committee unanimously recommended Stackpole for the position, which is responsible for Stamford’s annual Grand List of taxable and exempt properties.

“To me Greg Stackpole epitomizes what one would want to see in a candidate. He has a deep understanding of the City and the department,” said Jay Fountain, chairman of the Fiscal Committee of the Board of Representatives, in a press release.

“His experience has given him insights into how to improve the functioning of the department and he expressed an eagerness to act on them.

“This is an appointment that makes great sense for the city and one that Greg has earned.”
