Tong, D-147, first introduced the Stamford 2020 plan when he announced his intentions for mayor, and is designed to make the city the best in the country for families. The three main points of his start up plan are proactive promotion of small business growth, retool and retrofitting of office space, and focus on ‘clusters’ of start ups in new areas of enterprise, a news release from his office said.

“This great city has real needs, from creating jobs and building our competitiveness to leveraging our people and educational institutions,” he said in the release, “Investing and promoting Stamford as a leader in start-ups is part of that answer. That’s why, today, I’m urging citizens to join with me in getting Stamford started-up with a real plan for our start-up community.”

The event is one of several Tong will be having over the next six weeks and future topics include public safety, education, and infrastructure, the release said.

He was joined by Kathleen Warner, senior advisor, UP Global (a resource organization for entrepreneurs) and founding chief operating officer, Startup American Partnership; Barry Schwimmer, managing partner, Stamford Innovation Center; Brett Goldberg, principal of Stamford-based software company SYNQWARE; and Jud Saviskas, executive director, University of Connecticut School of Business.

Tong will face fellow Democrat David Martin, a member of the city’s Board of Finacne, in a primary on Sept. 10 for a space on the ballot for November.
