Emmett will replace Joseph Capalbo II, effective Monday, Dec. 1.
“Kathy has earned a sterling reputation throughout her legal career and she will bring a wealth of experience to the government center as director of legal affairs,” Martin said in a statement. “She will be an invaluable addition to my cabinet and I am delighted to work with her.”
Emmett, a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School, served as judge of the Connecticut Superior Court from 1982-88, where she was assigned as the presiding judge of both the criminal and the civil dockets in the Stamford Superior Court.
In 1989, Emmett became the founding partner of Emmett and Glander in downtown Stamford. She was featured as one of the top attorneys in New England in the 2012 edition of Super Lawyers magazine and is listed in Best Lawyers in America. She was honored in 2003 by the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund, for her barrier-breaking legal work on behalf of women.
Emmett serves on the board of trustees of The Ferguson Library and as a member of the board of commissioners of the Stamford Downtown Special Services District.She lives in North Stamford with her husband, David Golub, who is also a Stamford attorney.
