STAMFORD, Conn. — For longtime Stamford resident Deborah Andrianos, this year’s presidential campaign season provides a chance to support a candidate she has long admired.

“I’ve been a fan of Hillary Clinton for more than a couple of decades now,” Andrianos, a Hillary for Connecticut phone bank volunteer, told the Daily Voice on Thursday.

Ahead of Connecticut’s April 26 presidential primary, Clinton’s campaign has been stepping up its efforts across the state. The campaign has opened offices in Bridgeport, Hartford, New London and New Britain.

And while the campaign does not have a Stamford office, Hillary for Connecticut held a major event with U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy at the Stamford Democratic city committee offices in March .

A Stamford-based volunteer, Andrianos said she has been calling voters on the Democratic rolls for the campaign and said she plans to go door to door soon.

Andrianos said she has spoken with Clinton supporters on the phone who are “wonderful, excited and want to talk about her.” And while fellow Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders has received much press attention, she hasn’t spoken to any voters who have told her they’re definitely voting for Sanders.

While Andrianos likes Sanders’ character, she wonders whether he would be able to deliver upon his campaign promises.

“I think Bernie is a nice guy, but I think that he hasn’t really proven that he’s effective at bringing about the changes he wants,” she said.

Based on Clinton’s experience as a secretary of state, Andrianos believes that Clinton’s foreign policy experience is above all current presidential contenders — Democratic and Republican.

And Clinton’s support of women and family issues resonates with Andrianos, who was involved with women’s studies as a student.

Andrianos was particularly impressed that Clinton has advocated for women and families worldwide — not just those in the United States. She even involved Chelsea Clinton in her advocacy.

“I remember her giving speeches and conferences and I think she took ... her daughter with her on one of them,” she said. “I was impressed with that.”
