Scoring of state legislators is based on their votes on important environmental bills.
“Our environment is one of the state’s greatest assets, and protecting it has been and will remain a top priority of mine,” Leone said. “The natural beauty of Connecticut is worth protecting in its own right, but the quality of our environment is also very important to the state’s tourism and fishing industries, amongst many others. Protecting our natural resources is a smart investment in our future.”
The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters considered votes on children’s pesticide exposure, chemicals of great concern with children, fracking waste, genetically modified grass seed, protection of Long Island Sound, methane gas leaks in natural gas delivery and open space protection. Also noted were legislators’ votes on state parks stewardship, environmental toxins, tree trimming, water planning and outdoor wood-burning furnaces.
The public’s right to comment on subdivision applications, exemption from penalties for first-time environmental regulations violators and repeal of environmental regulations were also topics in which legislators’ votes were tracked.
