Battleground Develops For Stamford's Seats In State House, Senate

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Democrats boast a majority in Stamford, but with a significance Republican presence in the city both parties are looking to make gains in the battle for General Assembly seats in Tuesday's election.

Democratic incumbent state Sen. Carlo Leone is facing challenges from Republican Eva Maldonado and Green Party candidate David Michel in the race for Senate District 27, which includes most of Stamford and part of Darien.

In the city's other state Senate District, which includes some of North Stamford, District 36 incumbent Republican L. Scott Frantz has a Green Party opponent Edward Heflin but no Democratic opponent. The district also includes all of Greenwich along with a part of New Canaan.

In the state representative races, incumbent Republican Mike Molgano is facing a challenge from Democrat Caroline Simmons in the 144th District.

In the 145th District, incumbent Democrat Patricia Billie Miller is being challenged by Republican Carol Ann McClean.

With the retirement of Democrat Gerald Fox III, the 146th District is in play. Republican Kieran Ryan and Democrat Terry B. Adams are facing off for that seat.

In the 147th District, incumbent Democrat William Tong is facing a challenge from Republican Dennis Mahoney.

In the 148th District, incumbent Democrat Daniel J. Fox is being challenged by Republican Benjamin Aponte and Green Party candidate Nathan D. Cloutier.

The 149th District is based in Greenwich but does include part of Stamford. Incumbent Republican Livvy Floren is cruising to victory after her Democratic opponent Marc Abrams suspended his campaign under pressure for state party leaders because of a harassment lawsuit in which he is a defendant.
