Floren, 70, has lived in Greenwich for 40 years and considers her legislative position her full-time job. She is married to her husband of 45 years, Doug, has four grown children, Jenny, Melissa and David, and four grandchildren, Greta, Bella, Dean and Anna.
Floren also has held elected positions on the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting and the Board of Estimate and Taxation.
She is a member of the Greenwich Point Conservancy, the Greenwich Tree Conservancy and Greenwich Community Gardens.
Floren is defending her seat against Democratic challenger John Blankley.
Daily Voice: What are the biggest issues facing your district?
Floren: Job creation and retention; lower taxes; protection of the environment
Daily Voice: As an incumbent, what were your biggest achievements?
Floren: Removing pesticides from the grounds of schools and day care centers; reducing bonding debt and eliminating earmarks; preserving more than 110,000 acres of reservoir land as open space.
Daily Voice: Is Connecticut going in the right or wrong direction?
Floren: Connecticut is a wonderful state in which to live and raise a family. We need to keep it that way. Attracting new business and making the cost of living in Connecticut affordable for young people are vital – we are working to accomplish these goals.
Daily Voice: What would you do to involve your constituents in your decision-making process?
Floren: I am in constant contact with constituents – attending community meetings, snail mail reports and electronic communications, telephone calls as well as town hall meetings and forums. I always welcome hearing from constituents and appreciate their guidance.
Daily Voice: Why should people vote for you?
Floren: We need an experienced, strong and respected voice in Hartford to fight for common sense. I know the issues, I know the process, I know the people and I know how to get things done. I ask for your continued support and your vote on Nov. 6.
