Update: Police Have Suspect In Check-Cashing Embezzlement In Stamford

Update 4:00 p.m. STAMFORD, Conn. — The reported armed robbery at a check-cashing location in Stamford is now being called an embezzlement case, and police have a suspect in custody, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said Tuesday afternoon.

Information investigators received have led them to believe the robbery was an “inside job,” and the suspect and the store were working together, Hohn said.

Update 1:45 p.m. STAMFORD, Conn. — A check-cashing location on Stamford’s West Side was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday morning, Capt. Richard Conklin said.

The suspect, described as a black male wearing a mask and gloves, entered the X Bankers at 341 W. Main St., at 8:38 a.m. and robbed it, Conklin said. The captain was unsure of how much cash was taken.

Only one employee was in the shop at the time and gave up the cash to the suspect, the captain said.

Security cameras at the store were not working at the time of the robbery, Conklin said.

The case was still under investigation.
