Otis Campbell, 39, of 11 North St., Apt. 4J, was charged with promoting prostitution and conspiracy at promoting prostitution. Bond was set at $25,000.

Iashah Muhammad, 30, of 385 Barbour St., Apt. A, Hartford, was charged with prostitution, promoting prostitution and conspiracy at promoting prostitution. She was released on a promise to appear. They are scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on March 20.

Police discovered the operation, called Connecticut Asian Escorts, which had a Main Street address, while they were conducting an unrelated investigation, Capt. Richard Conklin said.

An officer called the number for the escort service two weeks ago, police said. A man who went by the name Kevin told the undercover officer that he had a wide assortment of women to choose from and emailed photos to the officer, police said.

After viewing the photographs, the officer made arrangements to meet at Hotel Zero Degrees on Friday.

The man told the undercover officer to use the staircase instead of the elevator at Hotel Zero Degrees on Washington Boulevard, Conklin said.

The officer went to the room where Campbell - who police said was Kevin - and Muhammad were waiting, police said. They agreed on a price of $300 per hour, Conklin said.

"When there was enough conversation about sexual acts and money, the officer signaled for his backup officers to come in," Conklin said.

Officers burst into the room and arrested the two. Police seized $1,953 in cash from Campbell and also seized a box of condoms.

Campbell was also carrying 22 hotel card keys that came from various hotels in the area, police said.
