Tractor-Trailer Rollover Causes Backups On I-95 In Stamford

Update 4:30 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A 21-mile backups was reported on Interstate 95 from an overturned tractor-trailer in Bridgeport from Exit 8 in Stamford to Exit 27, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said Tuesday afternoon.

The traffic jam extended from Stamford through Darien, Norwalk, Westport and Fairfield. 

Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A tractor-trailer accident in Bridgeport was causing huge backups on northbound I-95 on Tuesday afternoon, the Connecticut Department of Transportation reported. 

I-95 northbound was congested for about 6 miles from Exit 18 to Exit 27 because of an overturned tractor-trailer between Exit 26 and Exit 27, the DOT said. The right and center lanes were closed.

Backups were reported into Fairfield and Westport by mid-afternoon.

The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. It was not known how long it would take to clear the crash.
