Three Men Arrested After Police Stop In Stamford Turns Into Chase

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Three men are facing several charges, including drug possession, after a routine police stop turned into a dramatic chase Tuesday night through Stamford, the Stamford Advocate reports.

Police tried to pull over the car at around 9 p.m. Tuesday near West Main and Virgil streets, and smelled marijuana as they approached the car, the Stamford Advocate reports. The driver took off, and police had to use spike strips to blow out the tires to stop the car, the Stamford Advocate reports.

Four men escaped, but police caught three of them, the Stamford Advocate reports. Facing charges are Isaiah Mitchell, 29, of Charles Street, Bridgeport, Cheves Robertson, 24, of Voight Avenue, Bridgeport and Derrick Cooper of Dewey Street, Stamford, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Mitchell, who was the driver, was charged with possession and sale of a controlled substance, engaging police in pursuit, driving without a license and resisting arrest, the Stamford Advocate reports. Robertson and Cooper each were charged with possession and sales of a controlled substance as well as resisting arrest, the Stamford Advocate reports.
