STAMFORD, Conn. -- A would-be thief caused damage but didn't get any cash in a smash-and-grab attempt late Wednesday, Stamford Police said.
The thief used a piece of cement to smash a 21- by 16-inch hole in a glass door to gain entry to the hair salon Compliments by Rae at 908 E. Main St., police said. The cash drawer was the only thing touched, but there was no cash inside, said Lt. Tom Barcello.
"He's doing more damage than anything he is profiting from," Barcello said.
He said the attempt is similar to ones that have occurred recently, including five in one day at a High Ridge Road shopping strip.
