Teens Robbed Of Sneakers, Money Near Mall In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A pair of teenagers had their sneakers and money stolen from them after they were confronted by a larger group Wednesday evening near the Stamford Town Center mall, police said.

The teens were asked whether they wanted to trade sneakers and were lured into an area where a larger group of teens was waiting, police said.

Their money was stolen and the sneakers were snatched off their feet,, police said. A cellphone was also stolen from one of the teens, police said.

Officers were called and were able to detain one juvenile with robbery-related charges, police said. The 14-year-old's name was not released because of his age, police said.

The police investigation was continuing.

The sneaker-stealing incident Wednesday was the second reported in two weeks in Stamford. At about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 15, two teenagers were knocked to the ground and had their sneakers ripped from their feet during a robbery downtown, police said. 

The 14- and 13-year-old victims also had their iPhones and a $40 Brooklyn Nets cap stolen. Three teenagers were arrested in connection with that robbery. Read about the earlier incident here on the Daily Voice.

In another incident late Wednesday, a group of men asked a Stamford man if he had the time and then began to beat him after he said he had no watch, police said.

The attack occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Spruce Street, police said. The man was struck a number of times before the group left, police said. He was treated and released from Stamford Hospital.

Police made no arrests and were continuing to investigate.
