Connecticut State Police troopers and officers from the Woodbury Resident State Trooper’s Office launched an investigation at approximately 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, where there was reports of stolen cars and vehicle break-ins that had taken place in Woodbury and Bethlehem on May 24.

The investigation led police to identify a 16-year-old juvenile suspect, who has an active warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in court on a dozen felony burglary and larceny charges.

While attempting to locate the juvenile in Waterbury, investigators spotted a stolen 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee in front of the suspect’s home, which had been reported stolen out of Westport earlier in the day.

As investigators spoke with neighbors and canvassed the area, two men exited the suspect’s resident - one of whom appeared to be the 16-year-old in question - and they took off running in opposite directions when they spotted the uniformed officers. In an effort to apprehend the suspect, officers used his taser on the teenager, who was taken into custody without further incident and later identified as the subject of the arrest warrant.

During the search of the suspect’s residence, police said that additional items of evidence were recovered that implicated him in several other crimes. The teenager - whose name will not be released - is currently being held in lieu of $15,000 bond and is due to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon.
