Stephen Arzu, 18, of 70 Standish Road, was charged charged with third-degree larceny. His bond was set at $500, and his first court date is July 10.
A 21-year-old Courtland Street man said he had been working on his two bicycles late Tuesday into early Wednesday on his front porch, police said. He left his home at about 2 a.m. Wednesday to get food and when he returned one hour later both bicycles were gone, police said.
One was a $3,000 orange Cannondale bicycle, and the other was a blue Trek worth $300, police said.
He reported the thefts to police Wednesday afternoon, but a few hours later he called back to say he had spotted his $3,000 bicycle in the driveway from a Middlebury Street.
Officers arrived and questioned an 18-year-old who was sitting on the bike in the driveway, police said. He maintained that the bicycle was his, police said. However, the owner was able to correctly describe the bicycle, police said.
"He described all the custom stickers that were on it and said he could open the bike lock, which he proceeded to do," Sgt. Kelly Connelly said.
After he was taken to police headquarters, Arzu admitted he had taken the bicycle because he was tired of walking, Connelly said.
The blue Trek bike has not been recovered.
