STAMFORD, Conn — A man "threatening violence" fled from a downtown Stamford bank after getting only $70 from a teller Friday morning, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

The man walked into the People's United Bank at 350 Bedford St. around 9:15 a.m. and passed a note to the teller "threatening violence" if he didn't get any money, Hohn said.

The teller gave the man about $70, and no one saw a weapon, Hohn said. No one was hurt in the incident, he said.

Police suspect the man, who left on foot, is local because he took such a small amount of money, Hohn said.

The suspet is described as a black male, 260 to 270 pounds, wearing a blue Champion long-sleeved sweatshirt, a white undershit, a Yankees hat and khaki pants.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the bank, Hohn said.
