Updated: STAMFORD, Conn. — Police are seeking the suspect in the theft of an off-duty officer's car who slammed the vehicle into a parked car in central Stamford and fled on foot, police said.

The case began at 8 a.m. Monday when Stamford officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area of Ridgeway Shopping Center, police said.

An officer saw the vehicle dropping off two unknown black women in the area of 2900 Summer St., police said.

As the officer attempted to pull over the 2011 Chevy Traverse, it took off at a high rate of speed, police said.

The officer followed the Traverse onto Borglum Street, where it slammed into a parked car, police said.

The male driver took off running on foot, police said, running through several backyards and onto Cold Spring Road, where officers lost sight of him, police said.

The vehicle was stolen out of Waterbury, so the suspects may have ties to the Waterbury and Stamford areas, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and jeans with dirt on right leg, police said. He is seen in the photo carrying a sneaker and barefoot on his left leg.

The Stamford Police Department found a cellphone at the scene that contained the pictures of the suspect shown above.

The Stamford Police Department canvassed the area after the incident.

Anyone who spots this individual is asked to call 911 to relay his location to police.

Anyone knowing the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Stamford Police Detective bureau at 203-977-4417. All calls will be kept confidential.
