Suspect Charged With Carrying Gun After Stamford Shooting

STAMFORD, Conn.— A man who fled from police after a shooting on James Street in Stamford last month has been charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, police said.

According to Capt. Richard Conklin, here is what happened: Officers performed a felony stop on a vehicle early April 6 that had fled a James Street home after a shooting that injured three people. The driver then got out of the car and ran through Cummings Park before officers stopped him, Conklin said. During the chase, officers found a handgun they believe the suspect had tossed away, he said.

The serial numbers were scratched off the gun, Conklin said. Investigators do not believe the gun had been fired during the incident, however, ballistic tests were still being done, he said.

The suspect, Shawn Tyrik Huntr, 20, of Bridgeport, turned himself in to police Wednesday afternoon after police obtained a warrant and began looking for him, Conklin said. He was charged with illegal carrying of a pistol without a permit and illegal alteration of a pistol’s identity, police said.

He was held on $250,000 bond and appeared in court Thursday.
