Stratford Man, 44, Killed In Rollover Crash On Parkway

STRATFORD, Conn. — A Stratford man was identified as the driver killed after he was ejected from his SUV in a rollover crash on Saturday afternoon on the Wilbur Cross Parkway/Route 15, according to state police.

Michael Zawadski, 44, was southbound in a 1998 GMC Jimmy on Route 15 between exits 57 and 56 in Orange at 4:15 p.m. when the crash occurred, state police said.

A 2002 Volkswagen Jetta speeding in the left lane veered off the parkway, ran over the median's curb and struck Zawadski’s SUV, which was in the right lane, the state police said.

Zawadski’s vehicle then rolled over, and he was ejected as the car went down an embankment, state police. He was not wearing a seat belt.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The Jetta, drive by Taylor Stanford, 21, of Milford, went off the road and slammed into a wire-rope guardrail on the right shoulder, state police said. Stanford was partially ejected from the car.

Stanford was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.

State police are still investigating the fatal accident, which closed the parkway for about an hour in the area and caused long traffic delays. 

It was third fatality on state highways over the Memorial Day weekend. Two men were killed in a crash on I-91 on Friday night.
