The Belltown Fire Department hosted an Installation and Awards Dinner on May 10 to appoint new officers and recognize firefighters for their service to the Stamford community.
Many members were recognized for their lifesaving efforts to help the mother of their past assistant chief in April. The following members were recognized for their role in a prehospital cardiac arrest save:

- Past Assistant Chief Tom Alessi
- Capt. George Previs
- Lt. Ty Middleton (Not pictured)

- Firefighter Zack Lamotta
- Firefighter Markeno Grant (Not pictured)
At 5:13 p.m. April 14, Alessi found his mother, Grace, unconscious and unresponsive in her home of Joffre Avenue. CPR was initiated immediately, and the Belltown Fire Department and Stamford EMS responded.
Engine 41 arrived in less than two minutes and immediately continued patient care, an automatic external defibrillator was used and one shock was administered to save the woman's life.
Stamford EMS arrived and under the care of Paramedic Andy Konspore and Advanced EMT Scott Shear, she was transported to Stamford Hospital. She had already regained consciousness under their care.
It was particularly noteworthy and gratifying to help send a mother and grandmother of two fellow Belltown members back home to her family.
Capt. George Previs, who was elected “Firefighter of the Year” by a majority vote of the membership, was also recognized at the event.
Previs contributes a significant amount of time to the department, shuffling his work as a full-time paramedic and personal life while contributing more than 300 hours a month to the department. He coordinates much of the department’s training, and he issues and inventories all firefighting gear and equipment.
Belltown saw no change in line officers this year, and the department will continue under the leadership of Chief John Didelot.
