The boy had arranged on Facebook to buy an iPhone for $60 from someone who said they were from New Rochelle, police said. The seller said he would come to Stamford for an extra $5, police said.
The two agreed to meet in Stamford near One Landmark Square at about 1 p.m., police said. The seller, believed to be about 15, arrived with another teenage boy and teenage girl, police said.
But instead of buying an iPhone, the 14-year-old was placed in a headlock by one of the boys while the other boy kneed him in the chest and punched him, police said. The robbers were able to take $20 from the victim before fleeing the scene, police said.
The boy, accompanied by his father, reported the robbery a couple of hours later, police said.
The first suspect was described as a white male, about 5-foot-4, and wearing a white baseball hat, blue jeans and white and black Air Jordan sneakers.
The second male was described as Hispanic about 5-foot-six with short spiked hair and a pierced left eyebrow.
The girl was described as Hispanic with a ponytail and wearing a purple T shirt and purple sneakers with blue laces.
Despite the brutal attack, the teen suffered only a scratch to his elbow, police said.
