Miguel Angel Rodas Melendez, 34, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with police. He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
At about 4:15 p.m., several officers were dispatched to 34 Warren St., on a report that three men were handling a rifle in the backyard, police said. As officers approached, two of the three men complied with orders while the third did not and ran up the backstairs carrying what appeared to be a sniper rifle, police said.
Officers set up perimeter, called for extra manpower, and isolated and contained the scene. Officers learned that the man spoke only Spanish, that he was alone in the apartment and that the weapon was a pellet rifle, police said. The man eventually came down from the second-floor apartment unarmed and surrendered, police said.
The apartment was searched, and the pellet rifle and pellets were found in a closet, police said.
