STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Police are warning residents of a phone scam after receiving numerous complaints from residents.

The Stamford Police Department Financial Crimes unit is investigating the use of telephone number 203-275-6792. Citizens are receiving messages from this number asking for donations. When calling this number, a message from a female with a southern accent comes on, and purports herself from being from the Stamford Police Department.

Stamford Police say the number is not associated with the force and residents are advised not to accept calls from this number or give any money to anyone attempting to contact you.
