The citizen alerted police after seeing the driver enter his vehicle and drive away, the department said on Facebook.

A police sergeant was able to spot the vehicle on Washington Boulevard from the individual's descriptive information, then stop it with help from the department's Patrol Division, said police.

Timothy Bridge, of Stamford, was unable to perform a field sobriety test and arrested, according to police.

He was then arrested and a breathalyzer test performed during the booking process showed Bridge's blood alcohol content was three times over the legal limit, said police.

Bridge is a repeat offender and has multiple prior offenses in New York and Connecticut, according to police.

Stamford police encourage the community to report all suspicious activity to 203-977-4444.
