Stamford police officers arrested Johnnie Story of Bridgeport just before a suspected crack cocaine deal went down Tuesday night on Atlantic Street, police said.

Officers from the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad received a tip about a planned sale in the 700 block of Atlantic Street and set up surveillance on the area, said Capt. Richard Conklin.

Officers saw a 2015 Nissan Altima with Florida license plates arrive on the scene and noticed some people walking toward it, Conklin said.

Officers approached the vehicle and a man, who police said was Johnnie Story, 36, of Brook Street, Bridgeport, jumped out of the car and dashed away, Conklin said. Officers saw the man throw something to the ground in his bid for freedom, but they caught him a short distance away, he said.

The bag that had been tossed away held 3.8 grams of crack cocaine, Conklin said. Officers searched the car and found more crack cocaine rocks weighing 3.3 grams, he said. The cocaine has a street value of about $750, Conklin said.

Story was charged with possession of narcotics, interfering with police and sale of narcotics. His bond was set at $10,000, Conklin said.
