On Jan. 21, a 47-year-old man was at a bus stop at West Main Street and Rose Park Avenue waiting for his children. A Hispanic man walked toward the man and bumped into him on purpose while swearing the whole time, police said. He then punched the victim in the head and the chest, police said.

The victim fled into a convenience store at 190 W. Main St., and the attacker followed, police said. The suspect spat at the man and at the store while continuing a verbal tirade filled with obscenities, police said.

The suspect then departed the store, police said. Police were called to the scene, but officers could not find a suspect. The victim sustained numerous cuts and bruises to his face, police said. Neither the victim nor the store clerk knew the attacker, and they had no idea what prompted this attack, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male possibly of Puerto Rican or Dominican descent, wearing a dark winter coat with dark pants and a dark knit cap, police said. The suspect also has some sort of dark beard, without a mustache, police said.

The suspect had a contusion or facial disparity on his left cheekbone, police said.

The suspect may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, police said.

People with information about the suspect are asked to call police at 203-977-4417.
