Stamford Police Release Video Of Suspects In Daytime Purse-Snatching

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Police are asking the public for help in identifying the suspects in a brazen daytime purse-snatching that occurred Monday in downtown Stamford.

"We need your help! These two individuals are suspects in a purse snatching," Stamford police said on their Facebook page. "If anyone can identify the people in this video, please call our Bureau of Criminal Investigations at 203-997-4417."

A 25-year-old woman walking alone on Gay Street toward the Stamford Town Center mall was accosted by two men at 11:55 a.m., police said. She fought desperately to keep her purse, but one of the suspects yanked it away from her, police said.

The two men fled into the nearby Bedford Street Parking Garage, police said. The purse was found nearby at 50 Forest St., but its contents were gone, police said.

The video supplies a number of views of the suspects and points out many identifying characteristics.

A number of robberies involving purses being grabbed have been reported, Stamford police Lt. Diedrich Hohn said, including one a couple of weeks ago on Bedford Street not far from the police station in which an elderly woman was robbed of her purse.

In that case, Hohn said police are making progress, but no arrests have been made yet.
