In one case, a Hispanic man who was walking home at about 5 a.m. said he was accosted by five black males on BMX bicycles near 55 Stillwater Ave., police said. The man said he was knocked to the ground, beaten and robbed of a Seiko watch and his wallet, which contained $10, police said.

Stamford Hospital called police at 8:30 a.m. to report that the man was in the hospital and had a 6-inch cut on the left side of his face.

Police had been called to the hospital earlier that morning after an 18-year-old man showed up there with a cut to his arm.

The teen said he had been standing by 55 Stillwater Ave. with a friend when an Hispanic man walked by, police said. The teens thought the man said something to them so they walked up to him, police said.

However, the man grabbed a beer bottle, smashed it and lunged at the teen with the broken bottle, cutting the teen on the arm, police said. The teen described the man as in his mid-30s and about 5-foot-8, police said. The man ran off after the confrontation, police said.

Sgt. Kelly Connelly said police are trying to determine whether the two incidents are linked.
