Stamford Police Investigating 'Untimely' Death Of 2-Month-Old Girl

11:15 a.m. update: STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Police are investigating the death of a 2-month girl, police said Wednesday morning.

The infant had suffered possible severe head trauma, Capt. Richard Conklin said. Police were calling it an "untimely death." An autopsy was to be performed on Wednesday, police said.

The baby was having breathing problems at a licensed East End daycare on Tuesday, and Stamford EMS was dispatched at 3:12 p.m., Lt. Diedrich Hohn said Wednesday morning.

The the 2 1/2-month-old baby died at Stamford Hospital at 4:20 p.m., Hohn said, and police were called at 6:30 pm..

The daycare owner called for the EMS help, Hohn said. He didn't identify the agency.

Police didn't release any further details of the baby's death. Officers are conducting more interviews on Wednesday morning, Conklin said.

Police are not ruling out an accident or other causes, but are keeping all aspects open as they continue to investigate the case, he said.
