Qualified participants will receive a gift card for operational firearms, while supplies last. Rifles and shotguns can be traded in for $100 gift cards, handguns can be traded in for $125 gift cards, and assault rifles can be traded in for $150 gift cards.

All firearms must be unloaded, and should be transported in a vehicle's trunk. If not in a vehicle, participants should carry the items in, unloaded, in a box or bag. Ammunition should be in a container separate from any firearm.

The program is open to both residents and non-residents of Stamford. Businesses and dealers do not qualify. Firearms considered to be junk will not be accepted.

Police will also be accepting a number of other items, though no gift cards will be given for these items. These include ammunition and magazines, dangerous weapons, non-operational firearms, violent computer software, violent movies and violent video games.

The gun buyback program will be held Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at police headquarters, located at 805 Bedford St., Stamford. For more information or to sponsor the program, contact Officer Joseph Steyer at (203) 977-5377 or jsteyer@stamfordct.gov.
