Stamford Police: Dispatcher Held In Custody In Robbery At Taxi Company

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police have taken an employee into custody as a person of interest in connection with a robbery of about $60,000 at Eveready Transportation in Stamford, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

A dispatcher let someone into Eveready’s office on Lenox Avenue in Stamford at about 1:20 a.m. Monday without looking at the monitor, Hohn said. A fully covered man pistol-whipped the taxi dispatcher, took two money bags containing about $60,000 in cash and took off, the lieutenant said.

The victim remained hospitalized overnight Monday for treatment of facial injuries, which included a broken sinus cavity, he said.

Investigators received complaints about Christos Mazarakos, who works as a dispatcher at Eveready and worked the shift before the robbery, Hohn said. The lieutenant believes it was an inside job because the office has cash Sunday nights to pay workers Monday.

After getting a search warrant, officers found evidence connecting him to the robbery, the lieutenant said. Police also found oxycodone pills, cocaine, marijuana, packaging materials and scales and arrested Mazarakos, Hohn said.

The lieutenant would not further explain what was collected from the Rippowam Road residence.

Mazarakos, 34, was charged with possession of a controlled substance less than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. He was held on $25,000 bond, Hohn said.
