Stamford Police Charge Two In Attempted Assault

STAMFORD, Conn. —Two suspected Stamford gang members were arrested in an attempted assault Thursday night, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

The two suspected members of MS-13 attempted to assault three other individuals on the West Side of Stamford back in February, one used a bottle in the attempted crime, Hohn said. The two are also believed to be responsible for numerous other assaults that have taken place in that part of the city, he said.

The victims came forward in the February incident, where others wouldn’t, Hohn said.

Melvin Candray, 34, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, attempt to commit second-degree assault, and second-degree threatening, police said. He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond, police said.

Jaime Gonzalez-Moran, 25, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, attempt to commit crime third-degree assault, and second-degree threatening, police said. He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond, police said.

Stamford police also notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and it placed immigration retainers on the suspects, Hohn said. Both are immigrants, Candray from El Salvador and Gonzalez-Moran from Guatemala, the lieutenant said.
