STAMFORD, Conn. -- A homeless man with an eye for women's winter-wear allegedly tried to steal a $398 coat from Saks OFF 5th at Stamford Town Center on Saturday night, police said.
The man grabbed a coat and four other items, placed them in a bag and attempted to leave before he was stopped by store security around 6:30 p.m., police said. Two green-handled pliers were found in the bag, allegedly to be used to detach security devices from the clothing, police said. The five items were worth a total of $594, police said.
Charged with fifth-degree larceny and two counts of possession of a shoplifting device is Roy Malva-Guerrero, 44, of no fixed address.
His bond was set at $1,000, and he was held for a court appearance Monday, police said.
