The alleged incident took place in Veteran’s Park and officers found the suspect nearby and chased him up the stairs of Old Town Hall, where he continued to struggle before being cuffed, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said. The arresting officers found a black iPhone, cash, a 6-inch knife and 3.5 grams of marijuana on the suspect, Devon Deleon, Shawinsky said.

The iPhone and cash matched the description of what the victim said was taken, Shawinsky said. It is unclear if the knife was used in the robbery, he said. Deleon, 18, was identified by the victim in a lineup, he said.

The suspect was charged with second-degree robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon and interfering with officers/resisting, police said. He was held in lieu of a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 3, Shawinsky said.
